The Course Design Institute is a multi-day, in-person workshop for instructors who wish to design, redesign, or revise a course.

Instructors accepted into the institute will use evidence-based strategies to create student-centered and integrated courses, align course learning goals with assessments and activities, and be able to demonstrate their course structure through their syllabus. Participants will benefit from hands-on guidance, networking opportunities, and ongoing support from educational developers.

Accepted applicants should plan to attend the entire institute, which runs from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day May 18-22.

Instructors must have DEO approval before they apply. Applications must be completed by Friday, March 27, 2026.

Note: The Course Design Institute is designed for instructors who plan to design, redesign, or revise an in-person or hybrid course. If you are a graduate/post-doctoral student or wish to work on an online course, email teaching@uiowa.edu and we can connect you with the appropriate resources.
