The Center for Teaching is made up of a team of experienced college instructors who are experts in pedagogy. Our staff uses research and theory to design and lead programs that empower University of Iowa instructors at all levels to strive for excellence in teaching and learning.

As the Assistant Provost for Teaching & Learning and Director of the Center for Teaching, Anna leads a team of educational developers in designing programs that center equity and excellence in teaching and learning and support faculty, graduate student, and organizational development.

Sara leads the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) initiative, which supports faculty members to engage in systemic and purposeful inquiry into students’ learning in order to improve teaching.

Katherine oversees New Teaching Assistant Orientation as well as the Graduate Teaching Fellows program, working with colleges, faculty, and graduate students to support the pedagogical and professional development of graduate student instructors.

Tamar’s work in the Center focuses on holistic support for teaching and learning through partnerships and programs with undergraduate students, graduate teaching assistants, and faculty.

Eva oversees early career faculty support, including the Early Career Faculty Academy for new tenure-track professors and additional programming for all early-career faculty across campus.

Mike is the senior Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Teaching. In this role, he works closely with programs including the annual New TA Orientation, Graduate Teaching Fellows, Inclusive Teaching in Practice, TILE, and the Teaching Groups.

Wendi is excited to be supporting the Center for Teaching as a Graduate Assistant. Some of the programs she will support include the Early Career Faculty Programs, as well as Course and Curriculum Design.
Ryan Kopatich
Ryan Kopatich

Graduate Assistant, Center for Teaching
Ryan works on projects related to assessment, scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), and course design. His research interests are primarily in studying the various processes that allow students to read and construct their understanding of texts (e.g., inference generation, motivation, reading strategy awareness).
