Allie Brandriet

Biography

Allie Brandriet joined the Center for Teaching as an assistant director in 2025. With a background in teaching large lecture chemistry courses, chemistry education research, and instructional design, Allie brings experience in empowering teaching and learning excellence through evidence-based and innovative practices.  

Allie is passionate about collaborating with faculty, graduate students, and postdocs to foster a culture of evidence-based practice, continuous improvement, and innovation in teaching and learning. In her current role, she oversees the TILE (Transform, Interact, Learn, Engage) program, co-leads Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) program efforts, and provides expert support for Teaching as Research (TAR) inquiries from graduate students.

Allie’s background includes a PhD in Chemistry Education Research, where her scholarship focused on student learning and assessment. She also completed three years of postdoctoral research in chemistry education. Prior to joining the Center for Teaching, Allie served as an instructional designer at Auburn University (AU), where she collaborated with faculty to design online courses, as well as use data to continuously refine their course design and teaching practices. Before this, Allie was a lecturer at AU, typically teaching large introductory chemistry courses. She also served as a faculty fellow with AU’s Biggio Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning, supporting faculty in teaching excellence and leading a SoTL program. In 2021, Allie received the AU College of Science and Mathematics Outstanding Teaching Award for exceptional teaching.

Allie’s current scholarly interests include instructional innovation, faculty collaboration, and SoTL. Her recent works will soon be published in the SoTL journal, Transformative Dialogues: Teaching and Learning Journal, and she is co-writing a book chapter focused on using AI for teaching and learning in higher education, expected to be published by Fall 2025.  

Originally from the Midwest, Allie is excited to be contributing to the Center for Teaching mission at the University of Iowa. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing video games, and caring for her small orchid collection.
