Did you know that the Center for Teaching has an expert on staff who specializes in supporting early-career faculty? Dr. Eva Latterner, Assistant Director of the Center for Teaching, oversees early career faculty support initiatives for the center, including the Early Career Faculty Academy and additional programming across campus.
"Our goal is to empower new faculty with the tools and insights they need to thrive in their teaching roles from day one," says Latterner.
We invite you to explore and share the following list of Center for Teaching resources recommended by Dr. Latterner to set your teaching semester up for success. While these resources are available to all who teach, they may be of particular interest to new and incoming instructors as they prepare to teach at Iowa for the first time.
Handbook for Teaching Excellence
The Handbook for Teaching Excellence offers opportunities for reflection on learning and teaching experiences and shares evidence-informed strategies for planning aligned and equitable courses, developing syllabi, nurturing a sense of belonging for students, designing purposeful assessments, and more. You will also find teaching strategies for specific contexts such as a discussion section, a lab, or a service-learning course. Each section has guided reflections and activities to help instructors become scholarly teachers.
